Review: The Catalina Beach resort was a fantastic place to unwind for a few days. We booked ourselves into the hotel with hopes of just relaxing poolside/on the beach and the hotel was everything plus more! Would like to give special thanks to Samuel, Hector and Joel for always being attentive with us. 100% recommended! Pool was absolutely 100% clean and refreshing. Bar and food specials are great! Great place to watch the sun go down ! As for stairs, walk up or down a flight, pause, look at the flowers, trees , nature, birds, geckos and take in a fresh breath of air then continue. You are on vacation.. what’s the rush? Staff are incredible!
If you can’t walk up and down steps stay away… if it doesn’t bother you then this place is amazing built into the side of the hill it blends into the natural environment seamlessly. Beautiful beach and beach bar, with staff that go out of their way to get to know you, and chat. The waters warm and clear set in the center of the bay with spectacular views out to the ocean.

Such a quiet and peaceful place for a happy hour and dinner. Had a young gentleman show me the way to the restaurant and he spoke excellent English. His name was Alfred Garcia and what an exemplary example of customer. The bar tender at the restaurant also was my waiter and he too was courteous and friendly. Glad I visited there and will return soon.
It is rustic, there will be critters in your room and getting anywhere will require stairs. However, not many obnoxious gringos. Great food, great service, and great staff. Miguel in the office and Jorge in the bar were fantastic. I had major issues having forgotten a prescription and getting lost in a taxi. Both were helpful, kind, and patient. We will definitely be back Also, baby turtles!!
Hotel Catalina is a great place to stay on Playa La Ropa in Zihuatanejo. The resort is laid out such that you must go up and down many, many sets of stairs so don’t stay here if you are unable to do that. We stayed in a double queen room with a terrace and it was lovely. It was clean and so was the bathroom, which has a sink and shower. The terrace was a treat, spacious and a great place to watch the sunset or sway in the hammock as you listen to the waves hitting the beach. The room is not airtight, but the AC stays in the room alright. We stayed when lowest temps were at 25 deg C on average each night. The beachfront area is amazing, service is great and you are steps away from the water. The palapas are limited so I recommend heading down to the beach early. They provide beach towels. Breakfast is included, and the food is yum. Time moves slower in Mexico so take a deep breath and know your food will come. The restaurant has a gorgeous view that you can admire as you wait. The staff are all very friendly. The location of this hotel is a highlight, right on Playa La Ropa which is a beautiful beach with lots of great restaurants and bars. Would definitely stay here again and was sad to leave. Great option if visiting Zihua.
We've been staying here for over 20 years (for our annual family xmas trip) and recently made this the prime hotel for our wedding. They went above and beyond to make our stay extra special and they hosted an incredible welcome party at the Bar Panoramico. We have so many good things to say about this place but please recognize that it's not a luxury resort so if you're looking for fancy rooms and overpriced amenities, look somewhere else. Here's what you can expect: -A great view from every room - with a hammock on the deck. -The rooms are cool and rustic but not a place where you want to hang out and spend time. Go to the beach! -Delicious free breakfast (included in the cost). -Peaceful beach area with loungers and palapas (I suggest you got claim your spot in the mornings) -Friendly service from most everyone.
The stay was great. The hotel is in a great location right in front of the best part of the best beach in Ziwatts. There are many stairs so I would not stay here is mobility is an issue. Other than that I would definitely come back.
